Master Filmmaker, Man of Courage: William Wyler in World War II

Master Filmmaker, Man of Courage: William Wyler in World War II is a glimpse inside the private life of one of Hollywood’s most famous couples, director William Wyler and his wife Margaret Tallichet. Wyler is known for producing and directing many films, including Roman Holiday, Funny Girl, Mrs. Miniver, and The Best Years of Our Lives. In 1941, he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army Air Forces where he created films for the war effort, as well as two documentaries:  The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress (1944) and Thunderbolt! (1947).

This exhibit features correspondence, photographs, and other archival material from the Wyler family’s personal collection that have never before been publicly displayed.

Master Filmmaker, Man of Courage was curated by Jay Rozgonyi, Associate Vice Provost for Pedagogical Innovation & Effectiveness and Director of the Center for Academic Excellence, Information Technology Services.
