Come to DiMenna-Nyselius Library to see our  featured exhibit “Cities”,  in support of the University’s 2012-2014 Cities area of focus, now through October. The exhibit case on the right as you enter the lobby features books explored in Nicolas Lemann’s “Get Out of Town” article in the June 27, 2011 New Yorker, with additional images of contemporary cities around the world and of the future.

The lobby case on your left features images from the March 31, 2012 Harlem Field Trip by members of the Cities Faculty & Professional Learning Community(see slide show above), with additional materials related to the “Greatest Grid: The Master Plan of Manhattan, 1811-2011” exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York.

The six flat cases between the Circulation and Library Services and Information Desks include two seminal books on the impact of urban life: David Riesman’s 1950 book The Lonely Crowd, and William H. Whyte’s The Organization Man, 1956, both still highly relevant. Books related to themes explored by the Cities FPLC: Remembering, Building, and Defining Cities are featured, along with the Cities Sandbox, a Blackboard resource for faculty, and Cities Themed 2012-13 programs at the Quick Center for the Arts.
