DigitalCommons@Fairfield is a digital institutional repository of the collected scholarship and creative work of Fairfield University faculty, students, and staff, curated by the DiMenna-Nyselius Library.
Our repository aims to increase the global visibility and accessibility of the collection, furthering the University's mission to expand knowledge, deepen human understanding, and share expertise.
All sorts of things! Please explore DigitalCommons@Fairfield to fully experience the breadth of the collection.
Many use DigitalCommons@Fairfield to create a stable online record of scholarly work such as articles in journals, conference presentations, contributions to books, or creative digital projects. Others teach classes wherein issues of student-run journals are published each time the course runs; these publications call DigitalCommons@Fairfield their virtual home as well.
DigitalCommons@Fairfield hosts electronic copies of successfully defended graduate theses, dissertations, and capstones. This online ETD collection showcases the excellent research and academic achievements of Fairfield University students enrolled in Masters- and Doctoral-level programs.
We are hesitant to attempt to provide a comprehensive list of acceptable items, because creative works can be so widely varied and hard to exhaustively list. If you're unsure of whether your work fits in DigitalCommons@Fairfield, just ask! Our goal is to enhance access to impactful work, not gatekeep the types of content that we do and do not allow.
Increased Visibility and Accessibility
Among the primary benefits of digital institutional repositories is the increased visibility and accessibility of the work of a university. By sharing content freely online, members of the Fairfield University community can reach larger audiences, leading to a larger impact. The general public benefits from being able to access and utilize the material.
Compliance with Open Access Mandates
Making research openly accessibly is a requirement of many governments and agencies that fund research. Digital institutional repositories are a common way that institutions and individuals comply with these mandates.
Showcasing Institutional Work
Digital institutional repositories serve as a platform to showcase the collective work of a university, and can be used to promote institutional achievements to multiple audiences including prospective students and faculty, alumni, and potential donors.
