June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month. This year is the 50th anniversary of #PrideMonth (first event was a march held on June 28, 1970) to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. Pride Month honors the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals in our local communities, nationally, and worldwide.

Typically we would have a physical display of books in the Library this month but since we are currently closed we would like to share a resource list. We connected with the co-presidents of Fairfield Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA) and they shared a list of books and media that their club members have compiled over time. Great idea we must say! In addition, we have added a list of links to various reading lists and organizations.

Update 7/1/20:

When we first created and shared this guide at the beginning of June, we were responding to our Fairfield University community's statements expressing their commitment to learn more, do better, and become better allies. We gathered some of the most talked about books, as well as a few staff recommendations to provide our Stags an outlet to live up to those statements.

The reaction to this list was overwhelmingly positive and inspired us to keep working on the guide by adding more books to our collection and digging deeper through our existing titles to create a more complete and engaging guide. These efforts made it clear that our Antiracist Resource Guide had outgrown this limited blog platform and deserved a more permanent, organized home.

All the titles and resources that were on this blog post have been migrated to our new Antiracist Resource Guide, where you will find a more robust collection of books, films, and other useful resources to explore as we continue to learn and become better advocates for creating a more just world.
