We held a Poster-Building Workshop here at the library last night to provide an overview of conference poster design best practices. We had pizza and helped several students and a couple faculty from Nursing and Engineering get started on their poster projects. Dan Budak of Graduate and International Student Life and librarians Brooke Duffy and Matt Bernstein were on hand to troubleshoot and help answer questions. If you couldn't make it, don't worry! We put a lot of what we talked about on this guide here: Poster Design Guide.

Did you know that, according to Sundance Film Festival, only 4% of top 100 box office films are made by female directors? This is just one example of the systemic under-representation of women and minority groups in high-level film industry careers which has been increasingly brought to light in the media of late. Read more on the Women at Sundance page. There is also an initiative by the Women in Film advocacy group called 52 Films by Women (#52FilmsByWomen). The goal of this project is to encourage individuals to pledge to watch a film by woman filmmaker every week this year. For Women's History Month, we wanted to feature some of the trailblazing women who have made an impact in the film industry at the screenwriter, director, and producer level. These include Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), Ava DuVernay (Selma), Sofia Coppola (Bling Ring, Virgin Suicides), Jane Campion (The Piano). Please visit the display in the media collection on the main level for the full selection. There are also some films by women filmmakers featured in our online video database, Kanopy, such as Lina Wertm

Did you miss our De-Stress for Success: Midterms Edition event? If you were too busy to attend, you can still benefit from the Brain Boosting Study Tips developed by staff of Counseling & Psychological Services. About the event: On Tuesday, March 1st, the Psychology Cub, Counseling & Psychological Services and the Library partnered together to host a De-Stress for Success event for mid-terms, with the goal of educating students about practices for a healthy mind. 19 students signed up for massages, and we had 39 visitors overall. Student visitors left with a packet of brain boosting study tips. Recently, Fairfield University's ThinkSpace blog featured the study tips as a follow-up to our event. You can read the full list here: Fairfield University ThinkSpace - Brain Boosting Study Tips
