Since the sixth edition of the APA Style Guide was published in July, faculty and librarians noticed pages of errors and inconsistencies.  Most errors appear in the sample papers and citations.  APA recently changed its position that it would not replace copies of the first printing with copies of the corrected second printing.  If you, or your students, have purchased a paperback copy of the first printing, APA will send you, free of charge, a copy of the second printing.   Contact the APA’s service center (customerservice@apa.org ) to submit your request between November 2 and December 15.

If you want to view corrected copies, just stop by the library – we have manually corrected copies on reserve and at the reference desk.  Our online style guide for APA, http://www.fairfield.edu/library/libgd_apacitations.html,  is also correct.   To view the corrected pages online, visit http://www.apastyle.org/ and click on “Corrections to the First Printing.”

On October 1, President Obama declared October National Information Literacy Awareness Month. Every day we are bombarded with information in various formats – print, digital, audio, visual - at all hours of the day. The ability for anyone to create and disseminate information online makes it harder for us to determine fact from fiction. Amid this information influx and “crisis of authenticity,” librarians are able to help you. Information literacy is the ability to effectively find, evaluate and ethically use information. At the DNL, we believe that information literacy skills are an essential component of our students’ development into scholars, informed citizens, and socially responsible individuals. We are available to teach the principles of information literacy to students, faculty, and staff. We can do this in a class, workshop, individual appointment, online instruction through videos, or at the reference desk. Contact a librarian for more information!

We've just added Accounting Research Manager to our holdings. ARM provides access to objective and analytical accounting, auditing and SEC information with primary source data from standards boards and regulators, including standards from FASB, AICPA, EITF and IASB.  It's a great place to start your accounting research. This database allows only one user at a time- please check back later if in use. For other accounting resources, see our Best Bet For Research Guide for Accounting: http://librarybestbets.fairfield.edu/accounting
