About

Jesuit Library Passport provides on-site borrowing privileges for faculty at any Jesuit University Library in the United States.

  • Ask at the Library Circulation Desk for a Jesuit Library Passport borrower form.
  • Present this form to the Circulation Desk at another Jesuit library to obtain a Jesuit Library Passport card for that library.
  • You then have on-site borrowing priviledges, on-site access to electronic materials, and space for quiet study and research, if available at that library.

For a list and location of the Jesuit universities in the United States, see Map of the United States Jesuit Institutions on the AJCU website. If you have any questions, please contact the Library Circulation Department at (203) 254-4000 ext. 2188 or circdesk@fairfield.edu.

Additional Policies & Procedures

Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU), Direct Reciprocal Library Borrowing Agreement for AJCU Faculty The Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) is a national voluntary service organization whose mission is to serve its member institutions: the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. Though each institution is separately chartered by the state and is legally autonomous under its own board of trustees, the 28 schools are bonded together by a common heritage, vision and purpose, and engage in a number of collaborative projects. To further the sharing of information and research resources in support of faculty research, AJCU Libraries will provide direct reciprocal borrowing privileges to AJCU faculty of member institutions in the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities.

Policy

AJCU Libraries agree to extend direct, reciprocal, in-person borrowing privileges to AJCU faculty from member colleges and universities. Each home library will establish eligibility for direct borrowing privileges. The lending library determines specific privileges; including the maximum number of checkouts and the specific ending date for borrowing privileges. Borrowers under this program are subject to the regulations and loan periods established by the lending library. Each institution agrees:

  • to provide addresses and other necessary information on direct borrowers of the lending library to allow for proper enforcement of the lending regulations.
  • to be responsible for reimbursing the lending libraries for items determined to be lost.
  • to cumulate a final annual notification of any outstanding obligations for the preceding calendar year by March 1, Cumulated obligations will be declared permanent on June 1.

These privileges will:

  • be valid no later than the expiration date indicated on the AJCU Direct Borrowers Form
  • provide direct borrowing privileges only for AJCU faculty
  • apply only to the following libraries at each institution:

Procedures

  4. The lending library will establish a specific end date for privileges.
  5. The lending library will provide a library card and information regarding library policies and loan periods.

  3. The lending library will not charge any overdue fines to the home library.
  4. If the lending library declares a book lost and they cannot obtain the reimbursement from the borrower, the home library will be responsible for paying to replace the material, including the processing fee.
  5. On March 1, the lending library will give the home library a list of borrowers who have long overdue materials outstanding.
  6. On May 1, the lending library will give the home library a list of borrowers who have long overdue materials outstanding and a bill for replacement.

On September 13, 2004, the DiMenna-Nyselius Library joined AJCU (Association of Jesuit Colleges & Universities) libraries in unveiling a chat reference program. Of the 28 AJCU libraries, 19 are charter members of this new collaborative initiative that allows staff, faculty and students to chat online with a professional librarian at any time of the day or night using a Web browser. There is no additional software to download. Once logged into the system, librarian and patron will be able to browse for resources together. Patrons will see on their screen all the databases and websites that the librarian is searching. The librarian will also be able to send MS Word documents and images to patrons online. At the end of each session, the patron will receive, via e-mail, a complete transcript of their conversation, including links to all websites visited. This service is offered 24/7. Librarians at participating AJCU institutions will monitor each other's programs, so a patron at one campus could connect to a librarian at a campus across the country, taking advantage of the 4 time zones spanned by AJCU libraries. An increasingly popular service, chat reference began here 2 years ago as a pilot project when the DiMenna-Nyselius Library contracted with a local consortium to provide 24/7 chat reference. This new collaboration provides the opportunity to interact with experienced professionals at academic institutions with diverse subject strengths and that share our Jesuit mission and identity. Try it out!
