University Archivist Elise Bochinski, Professor Emeritus Paul Lakeland, and Professor Emeritus Kurt Schlichtling gave a presentation on their recent publication, Success on the Sound: a History of Fairfield University, at the Pequot Library on Tuesday, June 19th. Like the book, their talk detailed the rise of the University from a preparatory high school that opened in 1942 to the nationally ranked institution it is today. Highlights of the presentation included the acquisition of the former Jennings and Lashar estates that made-up the original campus, the growth of the University under President Father William McInnes, S.J. during the 1960s and 1970s, and the introduction of women and co-education to campus. The presentation also included a slideshow and a Q&A period from the audience.
After the program, the co-authors presented a signed copy of Success on the Sound to the Pequot Library and Cecily Dyer, Special Collections Librarian. Success on the Sound is available to borrow from the DiMenna-Nyselius Library and to purchase from the University Downtown Bookstore, the campus Spirit Shop, or online.
