In the words of Raquel DeLeo '27, on attending Library events during her first-year at Fairfield.
"Since attending the Pomodoro event [Guided Study Session] that the DiMenna-Nyselius Library hosted, for an FYE Thrive event, my time management and study habit skills have significantly increased. Through that event, I learned how to effectively and efficiently stay on task. These skills carried into the Library's Cram Jam opportunity [annual finals week event] as I studied for my finals. With the Pomodoro technique, I was able to concentrate and force myself to take a 5-10 minute break and take advantage of the "brain break" activities at Cram Jam. Such activities included a special visit from Dakota, Fairfield University's very own therapy dog, coloring sheets, snacks, and mental health resources presented by the Counseling department. In addition, I recently attended the Douglass Day Transcribe-A-Thon and volunteered my time to transcribe the correspondence of Frederick Douglass, preserving Black history. I am looking forward to other experiences that the Library offers in the near future!"

The Library continues to host weekly Guided Study Sessions in a distraction free atmosphere using the Pomodoro Technique, on Sunday evenings from 7:00pm-9:30pm. In addition, research librarians are available to meet with students one-on-one to discuss study skills, time management tips, as well as help locating, evaluating, and citing sources.
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method based on 25-minute stretches of focused work, with five-ten minute breaks in between. The Library provides snacks and de-stress materials for the mandatory breaks. Students should arrive on time to get the most out of this proven study method. Information is posted on Life@Fairfield and the Library website.
