Use databases to find articles on your topic. These databases are the best place to start.

  • JSTOR
    An archive of digitized scholarly journals and books, covering many subjects in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
  • Philosopher's Index
    An index to scholarly research in all major fields of philosophy. Provides citations and abstracts for journal articles and books, including publications from many different countries and in various languages. Simultaneous user limit: 4.
  • SocINDEX with Full Text
    SocINDEX with Full Text offers coverage of sociology, subdisciplines and closely related areas, including abortion, criminology/criminal justice, demography, ethnic/racial/gender studies, marriage and family, political sociology, religion, rural/urban sociology, social development, social psychology, structure, & work, socio-cultural anthropology, sociological history, sociological research and theory, substance abuse and other addictions, violence and many others.

  • When searching databases, use AND, OR, and parentheses to focus your search.
  • The asterisk * symbol will search for all variations of a word. For example: basket* will search for baskets and basketry. Using quotes will search for a phrase.
  • Combine synonyms with OR and put them inside parentheses, like this:
(bapti*) AND (gospel OR "new testament")
