What is a Literature Review?

A literature review summarizes and discusses previous publications on a topic.

Characteristics:

  • Explores past research and evaluates its strengths and weaknesses
  • Used to validate the target and methods of you have chosen for your proposed research
  • Consists of books and scholarly journal articles that provide research examples of populations or similar settings to your own, as well as community resources to document the need for your proposed research
  • Be in the correct citation format (in this case APA - learn more at the Citing & Organizing page)
