Creating a Thesis Statement

What is a Thesis Statement?

A thesis statement:

  • Summarizes the argument you will be making in your paper into one or two sentences in the opening paragraph.
  • Consists of an opinion or a point of view you wish to defend.
  • Does not restate obvious facts or details.

Throughout the body of your paper, you will use evidence, research, and examples to argue your thesis statement.
