If you are off-campus, you must be proxied to access university resources. This is a way to authenticate you as a university student. When you access a Library resource from off campus (such as database) you are automatically being routed through or proxy server--which is why you're asked for your NetID and password. Sometimes, however, you might need to need to add the proxy prefix to a URL manually in order to make it work.
For instance, if you found an article in CINAHL and wanted to send a link to a classmate, you would first have to click on the button to create a permalink (permanent link) for that article:
This creates a permanent URL that you can use to find the article again:
However, if you click on that link as it is generated by the database, there is nothing to tell the database that you're affilited with Fairfield. To do so, you need to add our proxy prefix to the front of the URL:
So that the entire URL looks like this:
Clicking on the link with the proxy prefix attached will prompt you for your NetID and password, and then let you access the article. If you have any problems accessing something from off campus, be sure to contact the Library so we can help you.
